Pilgrimage

GUIDE@HAND Mátra

Mária útPilgrimage has recently become an increasingly popular activity. It offers a continuously growing set of specific ways and tools to help people to get out of their isolation and move towards public communities. In civil societies, denominational religions decline day-by-day, while various forms of spiritual activities are becoming alive and popular. This process is significantly influenced by the fact that pilgrimage has also become an identity-forming phenomenon. It represents to some people – in a certain sense – the most important way to express their relation to religion, sacred spaces or other traditions. For this reason, the novel presentation of sacred places and buildings becomes more important than ever, especially in the transmission of religious values and heritage.

The use of multimedia methods also provides an opportunity to move beyond the mental-informational presentation of sacred content to a more artistic, thus emotional, or even mystical dimension of interpreting the site and space. If this is successful, it will also become more authentic by reminding or even updating the contemporary visitor of the activities carried out on the site. One of the keys to preserving heritage and tradition is to reconnect with the original, living community of the past, with those who created and used this space.

The smartphone tour leads you through the Kalló Valley to Mátraháza. Allow at least two hours for the only 5 km long, yet constantly ascending path – nature deserves at least that much attention!
